The Common Pet Parent Problems and How to Avoid Them

Dog Training

Raising a dog is not easy. It takes time, patience, and love to raise a well-adjusted pup that is happy with its environment. In this post, we will cover the common pet parent problems and ways to avoid them. We will help by giving recommendations on dog training and puppy training. Whether it’s a new pup in your home or an old pro, we can all learn something from these tips!

Let’s start our list of problems we face each day from the greatest to the least dog problem:

1. Dog Potty Training Problems

Potty training can be challenging when they are a puppy. First and foremost, remember your puppy is not in a familiar environment for them. The first few days can be stressful so keep in mind that everything must get introduced slowly- from house to backyard as well as neighbourhood locations like stores or parks. Never give up on dog training!

One of the key mistakes pet parents make is to feed a late dinner. This will make it hard on potty training. To avoid waking up to accidents, make sure to feed your pup early in the night and burn off the energy with a good playtime with a walk outside.

2. To Feed Processed vs. Raw Food

This is a debate that has been going on for years. We recommend feeding your dog a well-balanced diet. If you have the luxury and know-how of making a 100% balance diet in your kitchen, then by all means, make your dog’s food.

However, for most of us who don’t have the luxury to cook in our homes; we recommend you feed a well-balanced commercial kibble such as Black Hawk Pet Food and Royal Canin. These brands not only provide nutritional content but also a wide range of flavour to help picky dogs love their food.

3. Chewing Problems

Your pup will start eating everything in sight it seems! Everything from your favourite shoes to the couch cushions, and if they’re not supervised, even electrical cords are fair game for our furry friends. Chewing is instinctual to dogs. It helps them relieve stress and boredom. It also can be for relieving gum or teeth aches.

To avoid chewing problems; make sure to give them some dog toys while you are gone such as TPR toys or Chicken sticks. Chew toys also help keep your dog’s teeth clean which prevents bad breath, gum disease, tooth decay, and plaque build-up.

Another way to stop destructive chewing is by using a spray called “stop chew.” The product can be used on dogs of all ages, and it will allow owners more control over their pets when outside. It’s easy; just aim at any part where you see him chewing or licking something, like furniture legs!

4. Aggression Problems

Dogs get aggressive for many reasons including protecting their food bowl, fear of strangers and guarding territory. Aggressive behaviour is dangerous thus it’s the number one problem we want to address in this post. First and foremost: pet parents must understand that dogs do not think like humans hence we cannot reason with them using human words nor logic. Their minds work differently than ours so punishing your dog will never solve anything but rather cause more. Positive reinforcement dog training is a step towards changing aggressive behaviour.

Don’t be afraid to ask your dog trainer for advice on how to deal with your aggression problem. You can also reach out to us at Allforpets.lk and we’d love to help you solve this issue! [email protected]

5. Barking Problem

Barking is a form of communication for dogs. They bark to let you know they are hungry, need to go potty, or something has spooked them. Barking can become annoying and frustrating if it turns chronic like when your dog barks at night waking up the whole neighbourhood.

One of the best ways to prevent barking in your dog’s behaviour is by removing any potential sources that may be encouraging it. You should also avoid inadvertently rewarding or bribe-like practices such as giving them food or engage in play type activity when they bark, which will only make matters worse! Again, positively reinforced dog training is encouraged to cull the behaviour problems. You want your dog to bark on command and be quiet when you tell him to.

6. Leash Pulling During Walks

Leash pulling is one of the most common problems dog owners face while walking their four-legged friends. It’s frustrating when your dog pulls you all around on walks and it can be dangerous if you’re in an unfamiliar place.

One way to solve this problem is by rewarding your pet with some treats every time they walk next to you without any resistance or barking at other dogs during walks. We also recommend using a front clip harness like the Police Dog Harness which will make walking easier, safe for both humans and canines, no more neck injuries! You want them to learn good walking habits since puppyhood so that leash training becomes easy later down the road. Dog Training is the key

7. Dog Licking Their Private Parts

This is a common problem among dogs. Dogs lick their private areas to get rid of urine or fecal residue that may be irritating them, this can cause infection if not attended to immediately.

The best way to stop your dog from licking his privates all the time is by encouraging him to go potty in an area where you want him to every day and rewarding good behaviour with treats along with positive reinforcement dog training lessons. There are also products available that help reduces the ammonia present but it’s still very important for pet parents to understand why he does it so they can take actions accordingly!

8. Vet Bills

I am not referring to life-saving treatments or periodic vet appointments, I am referring to cause and effect that happens over a period due to the lack of care and knowledge from pet parents.

For example, just like us, human’s dogs need their teeth brushed; it’s important for maintaining oral health by preventing bacteria build up in their mouth which will cause all sorts of problems including bad breath!

Not providing appropriate dental care can lead your dog to an unhealthy life full of pain and discomfort that may require surgery or medications down the road – not something any loving pet parent would want to happen after they bring home their new furry family member. Another common mistake is feeding them inferior quality dog food! Like the old saying, you are what you eat, so will your dog! Dogs share many of the same needs and want as humans. They deserve to be taken care of, just like any other member of your family would! The truth is: pets need special foods too; not only because they’re different from us but also for their health.

9. The Life Span of a Dog

This came from one of my good friends who was devastated when his 13-year-old Golden Retriever crossed the rainbow bridge.

13 years is a lot of time spent with your fur baby and the same amount of memories made. It’s important to remember that our pets age faster than we do, so taking care of them and providing everything they need along the way makes all the difference in their lives! Unfortunately, there are hereditary diseases, and some aggravate them due to negligence and lack of care.

The best thing we can do here is to bring awareness about dog health and proper nutrition.

The goal of any pet parent should be to provide their furry friend with the best life possible by avoiding common mistakes many people make when raising their own pooch.
